The Story

Named after the answer nobody wanted.

It started a couple doors over from the garage studio where The Botheads leave the tape running. Different door. Same freight-train hum.

Four women kept showing up after bar close with a pair of Strats, a borrowed upright that never stayed in tune, and a shared refusal to smile for free. Somebody's uncle kept asking when they'd play something nice. They named the band after the answer.

Cara, Marlee, Susan, and Nicole are the sister orbit to The Botheads. Same hometown gravity. Different blood. The music is the Daddy No EP on The Botheads Spotify, and a new Daddy, No! album is on the way.

The Band

Four women. One hard no.

Cara Vale laughing outdoors in a black cowboy hat and tank top, plaid shirt tied at her waist, floral tattoos on her arms.

Cara Vale

Lead vocals · Rhythm guitar

Counts the band in and refuses to count them out. Writes lyrics on borrowed church bulletins and sings like she's daring the room to flinch. The plaid is a family heirloom she cut shorter on purpose.

Marlee Boone sitting with her bass in a rehearsal room, black hat, curly red hair, frayed jeans.

Marlee Boone

Bass · Low harmonies

Holds the low end and the stare. Plays bass like a threat. Never stays in one county long, and she goes quiet when a deputy walks in. The band does not ask. When Cara goes sharp, Marlee goes lower.

Susan Crowe with a sunburst Strat and checkered strap, black hat, bangs, floral ink on her right forearm.

Susan Crowe

Lead guitar

Sunburst Strat, checkered strap, notes that sting. Learned leads off stolen vinyl and never gives them back. People ask if the lace is ironic. She does not answer questions about lace.

Nicole Hart on a porch with her white Strat, short platinum bob, red bandana, freckles, denim vest.

Nicole Hart

Rhythm guitar · Harmonies

White Strat to Susan's sunburst: twin engines, different fog. Red bandana non-negotiable. Posed for a 2019 tool calendar and will punch you if you ask her to sign it. Stacks harmonies under Cara like a second warning shot. Secretly learning drums after hours, still too shy to play them in front of anybody.

Sass, swagger, and a hard no.

Sassy, in your face country girls with real talent and a hard edge. Unlike the Botheads, these four love the stage.
